Sustainable Design

“Sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.” The Bruntland Report, 1987

Sustainable design – or ‘Green Building’ – is the practice of increasing the efficiency with which buildings and their sites use energy, water, and materials, and reducing building impacts on human health and the environment over the entire life cycle of the building.

Green building concepts extend beyond the walls of buildings and can include site planning, community and land use planning issues as well.

Having a sustainable building not only has environmental benefits, but can also provide economic and social benefits to the owner and the surrounding community.
